Black History Month

BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Here are a few things to read, watch, and do with your kids or family to celebrate and learn together about our black sisters and brothers!

We hope these ideas can elevate black voices, help us listen and learn from the black community, facilitate conversations, support people of color, and lead to unity and change in our world.

BIBLE APP READING PLANS

We are continuing to try to listen to and learn from our sisters and brothers of color. One of the ways we can do that during this month celebrating black history is to read from Black leaders and pastors. The Bible App that we mentioned earlier has many Bible reading plans to help us read the Scriptures. They are also highlighting several reading plans from black pastors & authors to elevate their voices to help those of us who are not black to hear from their perspective. Head to the link on the screen or in the comments to learn more.

THINGS TO DO

SANTA CLARA COUNTY LIBRARY
The library has put together a list of resources and programs for kids, teens, and adults for the month of February.

KING ENCYCLOPEDIA
This encyclopedia from Stanford University’s King Institute is based on historical research and includes over 280 articles on civil rights movement figures, events, and organizations. It also offers a detailed day-to-day chronology of King’s life, drawn from the volumes.

WE SHARE THE DREAM
Dr. King often spoke about uniting humankind as one family. He referred to this communal ideal most enduringly as the “Beloved Community.” The digital exhibition We Share the Dream: King’s Beloved Community examines this idea.

RACISM RESOURCES
Check out other resources we have compiled to address racism in our nation and our lives.
